Why do some make it, and some don’t?

Successful people aren’t always the ‘smart ones’. They’re the people achieving great outcomes, often because their minds are in the right gear when the opportunity shows up.

Success often comes about then, based on the way we think, talk, and make decisions.

Recent conversations with clients has caused me to become quite interested in this idea that true riches are buried deeper – hidden not from us, but for us. We get better, when we can handle it better.

So imagine this: it’s 15-20 years from now, and you’ve retired because you want to, not because you have to. You’re mortgage-free, perhaps still living in the family home or enjoying a peaceful country retreat. You have choices. Your kids are sorted, and you’re sorted. You’ve reached that place you’ve quietly aimed for all along.

Most of us want some version of this—But wanting it alone isn’t enough.

It starts with seeing something you desire, but building wealth requires sustained actions over decades. Getting inspired isn’t enough – linking actions to your values is how it’s done. That way, you’re building through all your life stages: starting out, raising a family, and living the good life. Actions that persist whether things go your way or not, often benefiting others before yourself.

I’ve observed many different drivers for wealth: some are running from poverty, others are driven by greed, seeking comfort, or fulfilling a purpose.

The reasons we think the way we do, and the lives we end up living, can be a bit of a mystery. But the reality that our headspace affects our world isn’t anything new.

As author James Allen wrote, “The mind is the master weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance.” In other words, what goes around in our heads, eventually leaks out and changes our world. This can be both good and bad.

Of course not all of us start off in the same position, but the progress we make towards become wealthy, starts in the mind, before it happens in the wallet.

As with the gym, there’s no shortage of people who want the results, but the reason why they give up, is the same reason those chasing financial freedom don’t make it. Their actions aren’t truly connected to their priorities. The good news? There’s a fix for that!
